Biography

As BP’s Vice President for Shah Deniz Full Field Development, Al Cook is responsible for the integrated leadership of this $20bn project, bringing gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe for the first time. The project includes construction of offshore facilities in Azerbaijan, expansion of a terminal and pipeline system from Azerbaijan to Turkey and marketing of the gas in Europe.

Al joined BP in 1996, working in a series of project development and commercial roles in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico. In 2000, he moved to London where he worked in the E&P Planning and Performance Management Team.

Following this, Al moved to work in field operations in the North Sea from 2002 to 2005, becoming Offshore Installation Manager for the Cleeton Platform.

A move to Ho Chi Minh City followed, where he managed the IGB2 Project, incorporating the development of two offshore fields and onshore power generation. During 2007, he became Acting President for BP Vietnam.

Prior to his current role in Azerbaijan, Al worked for 18 months in BP’s Executive Offices in London, Moscow and Houston.

Al holds an MA in Natural Sciences from St. John’s College, Cambridge University and in 2005 completed the International Executive Programme at INSEAD.
