Biography
Jonathan Stern is Chairman and Senior Research Fellow of the Natural Gas Programme at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies; he founded the programme in 2003 and was Director of Research until October 2011. He is also Honorary Professor at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law & Policy, University of Dundee; and Visiting Professor at Imperial College’s Centre for Environmental Policy in London. He is also a Member of the Scientific Committee of IEFE (Istituto di Economia i Politica dell’Energia i dell’Ambiente), Milan; and a Member of the Board of Advisors, Center for Energy Economics, Bureau of Economic Geology, University of Texas at Austin.
Over the past two decades Professor Stern has become an internationally known speaker and author on natural gas and security issues in Europe, the former Soviet Union and Asia. He is the author of several books and many shorter works on energy and natural gas issues in: the UK, Europe (western and eastern), the former Soviet Union and Asia. He is co-editor of Natural Gas Markets in the Middle East and North Africa, published by Oxford University Press in March 2011, and also co-author of: The Transition to Hub-Based Gas Pricing in Continental Europe, which can be found on the OIES website.
Professor Stern is currently working on an edited volume on the pricing of natural gas in international trade.
